The seven-day, one-on-one, workshops for adults are designed to suit individual needs and interests. The following are examples of some of the themes that can be covered: creative writing, approaching a short story, writing a memoir, developing the spark of an idea, exploring Shakespeare, writing poetry, the challenges and wonder of writing historical fiction, how to overcome feeling ‘stuck’, the creative joy of research, the power of stumbling, self-editing and carving a text, and supporting work in progress.
We will not be using AI. I am not a Luddite, and I acknowledge the value of AI, but these workshops will embrace the energy generated by making mistakes, thinking walks and knowing when to let ideas rest – trusting in the knowledge that the good ones will re-emerge dressed in a fresh perspective.
Participants will be welcomed into my apartment in Trastevere, and we will share a week together. We will work in the morning, and the afternoons will be free to write and explore Rome either independently or with me. I don’t want to tread on toes, but I love sharing this city and exploring ‘hidden’ Rome is always a joy. There are magical places to write nearby: glorious libraries, quiet cafes, the flower room at the Bramante museum and of course at my flat overlooking the Tiber.
The accommodation is a mezzanine double bedroom. Breakfast is included; meals can be taken with me at home or at one of many nearby restaurants. NB the cost of meals out is not included.
